Bartow County’s Courthouses
There have been more than a few courthouses in Bartow County. The first is referred to as the Old Bartow County Courthouse. It was built in 1869 and can be found at 4 East Street in Cartersville, the county seat. This building didn’t last long because loud trains crossing nearby would cause court hearings to be halted. Since 2010, this building has become the home to the Bartow History Museum.
The second courthouse, the historic Bartow County Courthouse, was built in 1902. It was designed by Kenneth McDonald and J.W. Golucke. Golucke was known throughout the area for building courthouses and designed twenty-seven in Georgia and four in Alabama! The Neoclassical revival style of the courthouse makes it a photographed highlight of the county. It’s placed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the third courthouse in Bartow County. You can find this beautiful building located on Courthouse Square. The building isn’t the main courthouse today. In 1992, the Frank Moore Administration and Judicial Center was built and designated as the new county court location. All cases are held here within the county. It’s address is 135 Cherokee Avenue Cartersville, Georgia 30120.
